India hosted the 1st BIMSTEC Young Professionals Exchange Programme from March 9 to 15, 2026 in Mumbai and Pune. The programme was organized by the Ministry of External Affairs in partnership with the Government of Maharashtra. It brought together 30 young professionals including innovators, entrepreneurs, and technology experts from BIMSTEC countries. The initiative aimed to promote regional cooperation, knowledge sharing, and exposure to India’s innovation and startup ecosystem, strengthening ties among Bay of Bengal nations.
India hosted the 1st BIMSTEC Young Professionals Exchange Programme from 9–15 March 2026 in Mumbai and Pune. It was organised by the Ministry of External Affairs in partnership with the Government of Maharashtra.
Around 30 young professionals from BIMSTEC member countries participated. They included innovators, entrepreneurs, and technology experts. The programme focused on exposure to India’s startup ecosystem, innovation hubs, and research institutions.
Participants interacted with government officials and industry leaders. They also studied India’s development model and explored collaboration opportunities.
This initiative is important because BIMSTEC connects South Asia and Southeast Asia. It supports India’s Act East Policy and strengthens ties in the Bay of Bengal region.
Earlier, similar initiatives like BIMSTEC Youth Summit 2025 and upcoming BIMSTEC Games 2027 also promote regional integration.
BIMSTEC was formed in 1997. It focuses on trade, technology, connectivity, and security cooperation among 7 member countries.
This programme will help build future leadership networks and boost regional innovation and economic cooperation.
